Avon Foundation for Women Announces Avon Walk for Breast Cancer's 10th Birthday Season!



It's time to dust off your walking shoes because the 2012 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer season is here. This year marks a very important milestone for the Avon Walk: its 10th Birthday! As we walk this year, we'll reflect on the great achievements in breast cancer research and care over the last decade, while continuing to take strides towards creating a world without breast cancer.

Since the Avon Walks began in 2003, they have raised more than $423 million through the dedication of nearly 160,000 participants, including women and men ranging in age from their teens to those in their 80s, from every walk of life. Many of those walkers were you, our dedicated Avon Representatives. In the last decade, Avon Walkers have walked 5.3 million miles—that's the equivalent of 210 times around the earth. All of that walking and fund-raising has enabled the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to fund nearly 2.7 million mammograms for underinsured women in the U.S. and 1,800 grants for breast cancer research, clinical care and support services for those who need it most.

Funds raised at the Avon Walks also support life-saving breast cancer research that has contributed to an increase in breast cancer survival rates: five-year survival rates after a breast cancer diagnosis have improved from 70% in 1992 to greater than 85% today. We've made great strides already, but Avon and the Avon Foundation for Women won't stop supporting the breast cancer cause until we find a successful treatment for breast cancer.

The Avon Foundation thanks Representatives like you for the support you've provided over the years. In 2011 alone, more than 236 members on the "Team Avons" across the country raised more than $387,000! We encourage you, your families and your friends to join a Team Avon at one of the nine Walks during this special 10th Birthday year.

The 2012 season steps off on February 4 with Avon Walk 10th Birthday Parties in all nine Avon Walk cities. These Birthday Parties are a great way to get answers to all of your Avon Walk questions, hear from local beneficiaries, meet fellow participants and learn more about teams, fund-raising and training.
